Women's Water Polo Receives Votes in CWPA Poll for First Time Since 2012

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. (Mar. 2, 2016) – Caltech women's water polo returned to the CWPA Varsity Division III Poll for the first time since 2012, receiving votes in the Week 7 Poll after defeating Macalester College, 18-13, on Feb. 28.

The Beavers previously ranked a program-best tied for 10th in the same week of the 2012 season.  In Head Coach Jon Bonafede's first year, the current team has been led by senior Soumya Kannan (Palo Alto, Calif. / Henry M Gunn), who paces the team with 22 goals, 22 exclusions drawn and 18 steals.  The freshman duo of Katie Johnston (Livermore, Calif. / Livermore) and Brittany Percin (Moraga, Calif. / Stanford Online) has combined for 31 goals, with Johnston adding 11 assists and Percin 13 steals in just four games.  Junior Mary Boyajian (Sun Valley, Calif. / Village Christian) has stepped her game up a notch with a team-high 20 assists and senior Stephanie Wong (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif. / Palos Verdes Peninsula) and freshman Elise Cutts (Portland, Ore. / Sunset) have combined for 80 saves at a 36 percent clip.

Bonafede and the Beavers host Penn State Behrend (0-4) in the home opener on Tuesday, Mar. 8 at 4 p.m.
