LOS ANGELES (Apr. 15, 2015) – Sophomore Sasha Zemsky (Mount Kisco, N.Y. / Horace Greeley) recorded a career-high five saves as the Caltech women's water polo team fell at Occidental College on Wednesday evening.
Oxy opened the scoring and rode a big first half to a 17-2 victory, improving to 2-23 overall and 1-6 in the SCIAC while Caltech drops to 0-17 (0-7).
The Tigers scored the first four goals of the game before junior Soumya Kannan (Palo Alto, Calif. / Henry M Gunn) struck for her first at the 2:09 mark. Following another two Oxy goals, Kannan scored on a buzzer-beater to complete her eighth brace of the season. Caltech trailed 6-2 after the first quarter but would not score again, although the defense did lock down in the final quarter to allow just a single goal.
Head Coach Pat Beemer and the Beavers will head to Chapman University (11-14, 3-4) on Saturday, Apr. 18 for their final game leading up to the SCIAC Championships, which take place the following weekend at Pomona-Pitzer Colleges.
