CLAREMONT, Calif. (Apr. 4, 2015) – Sophomore Sasha Zemsky (Mount Kisco, N.Y. / Horace Greeley) and junior Stephanie Wong (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif. / Palos Verdes Peninsula) combined to make seven steals and a pair of saves in goal as the Caltech women's water polo team took on first-place Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Saturday morning.
The Athenas took the lead quickly and held firm on defense to record a 10-0 victory, improving to 8-14 overall and 5-0 in the SCIAC while the Beavers are now 0-14 (0-4).
CMS struck for four goals in each of the first two quarters and two more in the third before both defenses locked in to keep their opponents scoreless in the fourth. Caltech was unable to take advantage of three extraman opportunities, although the Beavers did record a season-high 11 steals as a team while surrendering their lowest goals against total of the season.
Head Coach Pat Beemer and the Beavers will host Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (12-9, 4-0) on Wednesday, Apr. 8 at 4:00 p.m.
