THOUSAND OAKS, CA -- Early scoring proved to be a enough as the Cal Lutheran women's water polo team poste a 19-6 win over Caltech on Wednesday evening.
The Regals came into the match ranked as the No. 4 team in the nation.
From the opening possession the Cal Lutheran offense was clicking as they scored eight unananswerd goals in the first period. They grew their lead to 11-0 before Hanna Dodd put Caltech on the board with 2:14 left in the second period. The home squad held a 12-2 lead at the halfway point of the contest.
The second half was played much tigher. Cal Lutheran won the third period 3-1 with the Beavers goal coming from Dodd.
Dodd found the back of the net twice in the fourth quarter while Soumya Kannan also recorded a goal. Cal Lutheran won the final period 4-3 to round out the scoring.
A five-goal effort from Dodd was a season high scoring output by any Caltech player.
Caltech continues SCIAC play against defending league champion Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. at the Braun Pool.
