PASADENA, CA – The VMI women's water polo team jumped out to a quick start and played solid defense en route to a 14-3 win over Caltech on Tuesday evening.
The Keydets opened the game by scoring the first four goals. Caltech got on the board as the final seconds of the first quarter ticked away when Soumya Kannan scored with a second left in the frame. A low scoring second quarter went VMI's way. The visitors put three goals on the board but held Caltech scoreless in taking a 7-1 lead at the game's midway point.
VMI continued to press offensively in the third stanza. They won the period by a 4-1 tally as they took a nine goal advantage into the final quarter. During that final quarter the Keydets found the back of the cag three times while holding Caltech to one goal.
VMI held the Beavers to one goals on nine extra-person scoring chances. Keydets goalie Molly Watkins also stopped a five-meter penalty shot.
