ORANGE, Calif. (Oct. 25, 2017) – Sophomore Lauren Li (Bellaire, Texas / Bellaire) turned in perhaps one of her best SCIAC performances of the season at Chapman University on Wednesday evening.
Li took it to the Panthers with nine kills and only two errors between two sets of action, resulting in a .438 kill percentage. Six of Li's kills came in the third set, which was far and away the Beavers' best of the match. Li opened the set with a kill before resurfacing in the middle of the set with four of five consecutive Caltech points resulting in Li kills. Sophomores Alexa Lauinger (Ortonville, Mich. / Brandon) and Ellie Walker (Minneapolis, Minn. / Blake School) and freshman Krystyna Maruszko (Redondo Beach, Calif. / Marymount) all assisted Li during this run, which helped the Beavers push the Panthers (8-6 SCIAC) as close as 15-all in the third set. Maruszko, along with fellow freshman Isabell Yang (Arcadia, Calif. / Arcadia) factored in defensively with eight digs each.
The match was originally scheduled for Oct. 17
Head Coach Tom Gardner and the Beavers will have a rest day before traveling to Thousand Oaks on Friday, Oct. 27 to meet SCIAC foe California Lutheran University in Caltech's penultimate league match of the season.
