SAN DIMAS, Calif. (Sept. 15, 2017) – Junior Sakthi Vetrivel (Redmond, Wash. / Overlake School) had eight kills and sophomore Alexa Lauinger (Ortonville, Mich. / Brandon) had seven kills in the Beavers' road volleyball match at Life Pacific Collegeon Friday evening. Lauinger also headed up her side's defensive efforts with 10 digs, while freshman Isabell Yang (Arcadia, Calif. / Arcadia) also had 10 digs.
The short-handed Beavers had chances but were unable to steal a set like they did earlier in the week against Providence Christian College. Caltech did feature a number of contributors, however as sophomore Mei-Ling Laures (Chicago, Ill. / British International School of Chicago) led the Beavers with 13 assists while adding three digs. Lauinger and Vetrivel were particularly dominant on the attack, accounting for 15 of the Beavers' 25 kills all on their own.
Head Coach Tom Gardner and the Beavers will look to exact some revenge when the Warriors visit Caltech on October 28. In the meantime, the Beavers will host their SCIAC opener this Saturday against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (7-3 overall). The match will begin at 6 p.m.
