LA VERNE, Calif. (Oct. 4, 2016) – Freshman Lauren Li (Bellaire, Texas / Bellaire) posted a team-high six kills on just 16 attacks in the Caltech volleyball team's defeat at the University of La Verne on Tuesday night.
Li's performance marked her third straight match with at least five kills, over which she has hit .292 and notched 17 digs. Freshman Alexa Lauinger (Ortonville, Mich. / Brandon) and sophomore Sakthi Vetrivel (Redmond, Wash. / Overlake) each recorded five kills as well.
The hosts stormed out to a 10-3 lead in the first set, including a run of three straight aces, and weathered a late rally in which Caltech rattled off six of the final eight points before falling, 25-15. La Verne carried the momentum right through the remaining two sets, never surrendering consecutive points in the sweep.
