Defense Posts Seventh Straight 20-Dig Effort at Rival Occidental

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Nov. 1, 2014) – The Caltech volleyball team's defense posted a seventh straight match with at least 20 digs as the Beavers fell at SCIAC rival Occidental College, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon.

The Tigers improve to 6-20 overall and 4-12 in the SCIAC, while the Beavers will enter their final game of the season with a 1-21 (0-15) record.

Occidental jumped out to a 5-0 lead to start the first set, but back-to-back Caltech points cut the margin to three.  The Tigers built up a 19-8 lead before the Beavers staged a brief four-point rally, including a service ace by junior Amy Hu (Rockville, Md. / Montgomery Blair).  Occidental would recover to take the set, 25-13.

Another quick start saw the Tigers leading 11-1 in the second set before closing it out at 25-7, and a 25-7 win in the third set  ended the match.

Junior Amarise Little (Orlando, Fla. / Freedom) led the Beavers with a pair of kills while Hu made two of the team's five assists.  Hu also shared the team lead in digs with junior Catherine Jamshidi (Burke, Va. / Lake Braddock Secondary School) at six apiece.

Head Coach Tom Gardner and the Beavers will host West Coast Baptist College in the season finale on Tuesday, Nov. 4 at 6 p.m.  The game will be available online via Live Stats and video broadcast, both of which are accessible through the team's schedule page.
