Third Set Rally Falls Short for Volleyball Against SCIAC Foe Chapman

PASADENA, Calif. (Oct. 18, 2014) - A third-set rally fell short as the Caltech volleyball team fell, 3-0, to Chapman University on Saturday night.

The Panthers improve to 6-14 overall and even their SCIAC record at 5-5 while the Beavers fall to 1-17 (0-11).

Once again, the Beavers got off to a slow start, falling in the first two sets by scores of 25-3 and 25-5.  However, they built on their scores in each of the final two sets, culminating in a tight battle early in the third as Caltech hung within two points through the first 18 before bowing out, 25-13.

Junior Catherine Jamshidi (Burke, Va. / Lake Braddock Secondary School) led the way with four of the team's seven kills while adding five digs and three blocks.  Juniors Amy Hu (Rockville, Md. / Montgomery Blair) and Harinee Maiyuran (Irvine, Calif. / Arnold O. Beckman) combined on all seven assists while junior Meghana Pagadala (Rock Island, Ill. / Rivermont Collegiate) added five digs to tie Jamshidi for the team lead.  Sophomore Suzannah Osekowsky (Saratoga, Calif. / Saratoga) and senior Connie Hsueh (Pacifica, Calif. / Henry M. Gunn) made three blocks apiece.

Head Coach Tom Gardner and the Beavers will enjoy a short break before heading to the University of La Verne (17-3, 9-2)  on Friday, Oct. 24.
