Jamshidi Near Double-Double Paces Volleyball in Loss at Redlands

REDLANDS, Calif. (Oct. 17, 2014) - Junior Catherine Jamshidi (Burke, Va. / Lake Braddock Secondary School) just missed a double-double as the Caltech volleyball team fell at the University of Redlands, 3-0, on Friday night.

The Bulldogs swept the match by scores of 25-8, 25-10 and 25-15 to improve to 2-14 overall and 2-8 in the SCIAC, while the Beavers are now 1-16 (0-10).

The Beavers got off to a slow start and could not quite pull it together completely surrounded by the loud atmosphere generated by a strong following for the home squad.  Jamshidi smacked eight kills, recorded nine digs and made three blocks while junior Harinee Maiyuran (Irvine, Calif. / Arnold O. Beckman) tallied seven assists.

"I really expected a great showing today," Head Coach Tom Gardner said.  "We seemed ready and had the potential to play a great match, but started a little slow tonight and were not anticipating as the plays unfolded."

Gardner and the Beavers will look to bounce back tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 18 as they host Chapman University (5-14, 4-5) at 6 p.m.
