PASADENA, Calif. - The Caltech volleyball team fell to its rivals, Occidental College, last night in a three set sweep (25-6, 25-13, 25-6). It was a rough night for the Beavers as they started out slowly and never put it all together.
The Occidental squad was led by outside hitter Claire Strohm who tallied 8 kills and 5 aces. Additionally, setter Sarah Beene had 13 assists and 4 kills.
Caltech, once again, had a strong offensive outing from junior co-captain Catherine Jamshidi who had 10 kills on the night. However, her efforts were not enough to overcome a rough night of passing and defense.
"I am disappointed that we couldn't put it together tonight," said coach Tom Gardner. "We have been practicing really hard but we just weren't getting our feet to the ball in serve receive and our defensive reaction time was slow. We have played so much better and are capable of some great things. We just need to put it all together for a great result."
The volleyball team will take the court at home on Saturday for a doubleheader against Mills College at 1 pm and 6 pm.
