LANCASTER, Calif. – In its first match of the season, the Caltech volleyball team headed to Lancaster to take on the Lady Eagles of West Coast Baptist College.
On the road with a youthful group, the Beavers showed opening match jitters against an athletic Eagles squad. Additionally, the experienced host team had already played 13 matches this season.
"We were nervous since it was our first match and most of the team had not started last season," head coach Tom Gardner said.
Eleven players saw court time in the three-set loss (11-25, 12-25, 12-25).
"We never really settled into a rhythm and definitely didn't execute the way that we are capable," Gardner added. "I believe that we will be more comfortable in our next outing, and going into the tournament in Northern California this weekend."
The Beavers head to the highway on Wednesday night when they take on conference foe Chapman University at 7:30 pm.
