CLAREMONT, CA -- Pomona-Pitzer has a solid start in each set and continued that strong play through out as they posted a 3-0 (25-13, 25-11, 25-15) win over Caltech on Saturday morning.
In the opening set the Beavers scored the first two points before the home squad rattled off five consecutive points. After trading points, Pomona-Pitzer pushed ahead and took a commanding 13-7 lead in helping them take the first stanza.
Pomona-Pitzer started the second stanza by scoring five straight and 10 of the first 11 points and never looked back as they grabbed a 2-0 advantage. The early stages of the third stanza went back-and-forth. After trading three leads and having the score tied three times, the Sagehens slowly nudged ahead in the set as they swept the match.
The Beavers got a solid offensive effort from Paige Logan who had a match high 10 kills. The double figure effort is her best performance in a three-set match this season.
Megan Jackson had a match high 16 digs for Caltech while Catherine Jamshidi chipped in an eight-dig performance.
Pomona-Pitzer's offense was paced by Ellen Yamasaki's nine kills. Beth Smilkstein had a team best 15 digs along the back row.
