PASADENA, CA – The ClaremontMuddScripps women's volleyball team posted a 3-0 (25-17, 25-13, 25-7) win over Caltech on Saturday evening.
In the opening set the Athenas scored six of the first seven points and played steady enough to hold that lead. Caltech got their deficit down to four points occasions but couldn't overcome their early debt. Paige Logan had a nice first set for the Beavers as she tallied four kills on five attempts.
Neither team could grab the second set's momentum until midway through the stanza. ClaremontMuddScripps held a 12-8 lead and then rode a 7-1 scoring spurt to take control of the set in taking a commanding 2-0 lead in the match. Anne Fleming posted six kills during that set to pace the visitors efforts.
ClaremontMuddScripps put any hopes of a Beaver comeback away with an early 12-1 scoring run to start the final set. During that final set the Athena's hitters were near perfect as they had 15 kills on 24 attempts with just one error (.524 hitting percentage).
Megan Richman and Fleming took match high honors with nine kills each for the visitors.
Logan recorded a team best six kills while Catherine Jamshidi pitched in a five-kill effort.
Caltech continues their homestand on Tuesday evening with a 7:30 p.m. match against new SCIAC foe Chapman.
