Beavers Start Second Half of SCIAC Play at Occidental

LOS ANGELES, CA – The Caltech women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (25-9, 25-12, 25-9) decision to Occidental on Friday evening.

The match marked the start of the second half of SCIAC play for the two teams.

Occidental, who came into the match just outside the AVCA Top 25, started strong from the opening serve. Already leading 5-3 in the first set, the Tigers proceeded to score 11 consecutive points in taking the first stanza.

In the second set it was a similar story as Occidental distanced themselves early. Holding a 6-3 advantage, the home squad grabbed the entire contest's energy by scoring seven unanswered points to go up by double digits at 13-3. Caltech couldn't get their deficit down to less than nine points the rest of the second set.

The Tigers finished the match off in three sets by controlling the final stanza. Occidental won the first nine points in the frame in helping them complete the sweep.

As a team the Occidental offense was clicking to the tune of a .389 hitting percentage. Logan Boyer-Hayse, a first-team All-American last season, teamed with Kasey Rose to lead the team with 10 kills each.

Caltech's duo of Katie Ching and Paige Logan each tallied a five-kill evening.

The Beavers return home on Saturday evening at 6 p.m. when they host ClaremontMuddScripps.
