Early Momentum Helps La Verne Past Caltech

La VERNE, Calif. – La Verne continued its push towards the top half of the SCIAC standings with a 3-0 (25-4, 25-12, 25-14) win over Caltech on Wednesday evening.

The Leopards upped their record to 15-9 overall while inching above the .500 mark in league matches to 5-4. La Verne remains in the fourth and finals spot for a berth in the conference's post season tournament. Caltech's record falls to 0-18 overall and 0-10 in SCIAC contests.

La Verne jumped out early by scoring 13 of the matches' first 15 points in cruising to an opening set victory. During the first frame, the Leopards tallied a .444 team hitting percentage to aid in their efforts.

Unfortunately for the Beavers the story remained similar in the second set as the home squad jumped out to a 12-4 advantage and never looked back in taking a 2-0 edge in the match. The opening portion of third set went back-and-forth before the Leopards pulled away. Holding an 8-7 lead, La Verne proceeded to score six unanswered points as they took a 14-7 strangle hold on the set en route to sweeping the match.

Catie Logan had a match high 12 kills and a .579 hitting percentage to pace the Leopards offensive efforts. Krystal Castellanos dished out 24 assists in directing the home squad's offense.

Paige Logan had a team best seven kills for the Beavers while Teri Juarez chipped in five. Katie Ching had a match high nine digs for Caltech
