PASADENA, Calif. -- Occidental College spread the offense around as nine different players had at least one kill en route to a 3-0 (25-8, 25-8, 25-14) win over Caltech in a SCIAC women's volleyball match-up at the Braun Athletic Center.
Occidental, who came into the match as the league's second place team, raises their record to 14-7 overall and 7-2 in SCIAC matches. The Beavers fall to 0-17 and 0-9 respectively.
After taking the first two sets by identical 25-8 scores, Occidental got a challenge from the Beavers in the third set. With the third frame tied at 5-5 the Tigers nudged ahead with a 7-1 scoring spurt in taking a 12-6 advantage. The Beavers fought back and got within 13-8 but couldn't pull any closer as Occidental swept the match.
Leading the way for the visitors was Stephanie Gann who had a match high 10 kills. Logan Boyer Hayse was second on the squad with seven kills in two sets. Jessie Altman directed the offense for two sets as she tallied a 15-assist evening. Hana Hunt had seven assists as the primary setter in the third set.
Occidental had a season high 18 services aces in the win. Madyson Cassidy, Boyer-Hayse and Gann each had a team best three service aces.
