ANGWIN, Calif. -- Pacific Union used an effect offensive attack and a solid service night en route to a 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-14) win over Caltech on Thursday evening in a non-conference women's volleyball match-up.
One of Pacific Union's strong points on the evening was their service game. The home team tallied 10 service aces leading by Melissa Elenes match high four.
The Pacific Union offense was spread around nicely between four players. Jenna Glantz had a team best eight kills to lead the Pioneers attacked while Brita Widmer tallied seven kills in the victory. The duo of Calai Brown (6) and Casey Miller (5) rounded out the kill producers for the home team. The four players accounted for all 24 of the Pioneer kills.
Teri Juarez had a team best six kills to lead the Beavers offensive charge while adding a team high seven digs. Paige Logan recorded a five-kill performance. Logan also had a match best five block assists.
Mills College 3, Caltech 0
OAKLAND, Calif. -- Mills College jumped out to a quick lead then fought back late in posting a 3-0 victory (25-12, 25-9, 26-24) win over Caltech on Friday evening.
After taking the first two sets in quick fashion, Mills found themselves in a fight in the third set. Caltech held a 24-17 lead in the third set and looked poised to force a fourth frame. However, the home squad fought back with nine unanswered points to sweep the match.
Katie Ching had a team best four kills for the Beavers while Teri Juarez and Paige Logan chipped in three each. Juarez had a Beaver best eight digs in the contest.
