CLAREMONT, Calif. – Pomona-Pitzer held down Caltech 3-0 (25-5, 25-8, 25-15) on Friday evening in SCIAC women's volleyball match-up at the Rains Center.
In the opening set the home squad didn't commit an attack error as they posted 10 kills and a .476 team hitting percentage. The Sagehens continued their momentum with 13 kills in the second set in taking a 2-0 lead in the match.
After struggling to a negative hitting percentage in the first two sets, the Beavers offense played well in the third set. Caltech had seven kills on 19 attempts but Pomona-Pitzer had 11 kills and a .231 hitting mark to sweep the match.
The trio of Sophie Tweed-Simmons, Erin Toothaker and Wayment Steele each tallied a match high six kills to pace the Sagehens offense.
The Beavers will host Whittier on Saturday evening at 6:00 p.m. at the Braun Athletic Center.
