PASADENA, Calif. – The La Verne women's volleyball squad had five different players record at least five kills in helping them post a 3-0 (25-10, 25-14, 25-11) win over Caltech in the SCIAC opener for both teams.
The victory lifts the Leopards to 6-5 and 1-0 in league matches while Caltech falls to 0-5 and 0-1 respectively.
In the opening set the visitor's offense was firing on all cylinders as the Leopards hit .526 as team in taking a 1-0 edge in the match. La Verne scored 11 of the set's first 15 points en route to the opening set victory.
The second set saw both teams trade points early until the Leopards went on a run just before the midway point of the frame. With the score knotted at 8-8, La Verne went on a 6-0 scoring spurt to grab control of the set. Caltech had a solid offensive attack during the set as they recorded a .385 hitting percentage but committed 14 total errors.
Tiffany Johnstone had a team best nine kills to go along with her .533 hitting percentage. As a team the Leopards recorded a season high .433 hitting percentage.
Paige Logan posted a match high 10 kills and a .692 to pace the Beavers offense. The sophomore also recorded two block solos.
