PASADENA, Calif. – Despite posting 55 team digs in the match, Caltech couldn't overcome Mills as the Cyclones posted a 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-12) win on Friday evening in a non-conference women's volleyball match.
The Beavers tallied 55 digs as team are the most ever under second year head coach Jodi Lindsay.
In the opening set the Cyclones scored 11 of the first 17 points in taking the early lead. Caltech chipped away but couldn't get their deficit under four points as Mills took the opening set. The Beavers grabbed the momentum early in the second set as they held a 6-3 edge. However, the Cyclones scored 11 of the set's next 15 points as they took a 14-10 advantage. An undaunted Caltech squad fought back and briefly took the lead at 16-15. Mills concluded the set on a 10-1 scoring run to grab on the matches' momentum.
Mills scored the first six points in the final set and wouldn't let the Beavers back into the match in sweeping the evening's contest.
Serving played a big role in the match as Mills held a 12-3 edge in services aces. In addition, Caltech recorded 10 service errors.
Erin Hoops tallied her first career double with a 10-assist, 14-dig effort to aid in the Beavers efforts. Terri Juarez pitched in 17 digs along with a team high seven kills. Ashley Lo tied Juarez for match high dig honors with 17 as well.
Amy Fowler had a match high eight kills to pace the Cyclones attack.
