PASADENA, Calif. - On Thursday evening, the Caltech Women's Volleyball earned its first win of the season by defeating Mills College, 3-1 (25-9, 12-25, 25-15, 25-7), in Braun Gym. Caltech jumped ahead early with a run of five unanswered points. The early start set the tone for the rest of the night, as Tech went on to take the first set. Mills came out with aggressive serving in the second series and ended up winning the set. Responses by the Beavers, however, allowed the hosts to close the door on the visitors in sets three and four.
Caltech's offense was led by freshman Paige Logan, who had a match high of 14 kills. Logan was supported by the outstanding play and leadership of seniors Katie Peters and Ying Ying Tran. Peters, who was also celebrating her twenty-first birthday, registered 9 kills on the special day. Tran, meanwhile, recorded 14 digs.
The Beavers had impressive team totals of 41 kills and 23 digs. Teri Juarez led the charge at the end line with seven service aces, as she effectively used her wicked jump serve to throw off the Mills defense. In addition, junior Megan Larisch made her season debut playing right front.
