PASADENA, Calif. – In the final SCIAC volleyball match of the 2010 season, Pomona Pitzer used scoring runs midway through each game en route to posting a 3-0 (25-10, 25-10, 25-12) on Tuesday night at Braun Athletic Center.
In addition to being the final home match of the season, it was the last match for four Caltech seniors. Deboki Chakravarti, Michelle Jiang, Katie Peters and Ying Ying Tran all were playing their final match in a Beaver uniform. (Watch Senior Video)
Tran started things out on the right foot for Caltech (1-20, 0-14) in the opening game when she served four consecutive points as the Beavers jumped out to a 4-0 lead. However, the Sagehens chipped away quickly and took the lead for the good at 8-7 in the opening stanza on a Kenzie Aries kill.
Similarly in the second game the Pomona Pitzer (18-11, 8-6) grabbed control early. Already leading 8-6, the Sagehens only allowed the Beavers to score four points during the rest of the game in grabbing control of the match.
An undaunted Caltech squad continued to fight in the third game. During the first 20 points of the third game there were six lead changes and six ties. With that game tied at 10-10, Ponoma Pitzer scored 10 of the game's next 11 points in seizing all momentum in eventually winning in a sweep.
Peters led the Caltech offense by producing five kills. The Beavers played well in the back row which was led by Teri Juarez's 14 and Trans 11 digs.
Four different players paced the Sagehens offensive attack as Eleanor Hughes, Jordan Hammond, Anna Miller and Rachel Bollens each had six kills.
