Women's Tennis Releases 2020 Schedule

PASADENA (Aug. 16, 2019) – The Caltech women's tennis team has released its schedule for the upcoming 2020 season. This year's schedule will feature matches 12 home matches and nine matches against ranked opponents (subject to change). The Beavers posted one of the program's all-time great seasons in 2019, finishing 21st in the ITA's year-end rankings, and have added the necessary depth to make another run at the Top-20 this spring.

Caltech will open the season with three days at the ITA Oracle Cup in Claremont, Calif. beginning on Friday, Oct. 4 and extending through the weekend. This year's ITA Cup will take place later in the month for any Beavers who manage to qualify. The Beavers will play two exhibition matches between January and February and will open the 2020 regular season on the road when they meet 33rd-ranked SCIAC foe University of Redlands on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 11 a.m. Caltech had a key win on home court against Redlands last season and will look to get 2020 off on the right foot in its SCIAC and regular-season debut. The women's tennis team will play one more February match the following week at home when it meets No. 22 Southwestern University on Sunday, Feb. 23 at 9 a.m.

The Beavers will play an eight-match homestand throughout the month of March, beginning on Monday, Mar. 2 when they host No. 24 Christopher Newport University at 3 p.m. Caltech will next host No. 16 University of Mary Washington on Friday, Mar. 6 at 3 p.m and proceed to host No. 20 Washington University in St. Louis on Sunday, Mar. 8 at 10 a.m. The Beavers will play the fourth match of the March homestand on Tuesday, Mar. 10 when they host Vassar College at 3 p.m. Next up for Caltech will be the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Thursday, Mar. 12 at 3 p.m., followed by Whitman College on Saturday, Mar. 21 at 2 p.m. The final two matches of the homestand will take place on Monday, Mar. 23 and Wednesday, Mar. 25. Caltech will first host No. 8 University of Chicago in the Monday match at 10 a.m. before returning to its home court at the same time on Wednesday to host No. 32 Linfield College. The Beavers' final match of the month will take place on Saturday, Mar. 28 when they travel to Occidental College for a 10 a.m. match.

From April on, the women's tennis team will play the remainder of its matches against SCIAC teams. Caltech will open the month on Apr. 3 when it hosts Whittier College at 3 p.m. The Beavers will retake the court the very next day when they travel to conference contender No. 5 Pomona-Pitzer Colleges for a 10 a.m. match, and will remain on the road to face Chapman University on Friday, Apr. 10 at 3 p.m. Caltech will host No. 2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in a pivotal match on Saturday, Apr. 11 at 10 a.m. and will finish up the regular season at home in the annual Senior Day match against California Lutheran University on Friday, Apr. 17 at 3 p.m.

Head Coach Mandy Gamble and the Beavers return to Ventura for the 120th Annual Ojai Valley Tournament from Thursday, Apr. 23-Sunday, Apr. 26 where they will look to put another late-season surge together after departing senior Kana Moriyama won the Division III women's singles championship last year. The SCIAC Postseason Tournament will take place the following weekend, hosted by the conference's top two seeds upon the season's completion and will be followed by the NCAA Team and Individual Tennis Championships. Last year saw Moriyama qualify for the individual tournament in Kalamazoo, Mich., and should the team or any players manage to qualify, this year's NCAA Championships will be held in late May.
