PASADENA (Mar. 28, 2018) – The 40th-ranked Caltech women's tennis team made it three wins in a row when they dominated Pacific Lutheran University, 8-1, on Wednesday afternoon.
The Beavers had another perfect doubles day, this time dropping just two games between the three matches. Junior Kana Moriyama (Redmond, Wash. / Redmond) and freshman Sarina Liu (Rolling Hills, Calif. / Palos Verdes Peninsula) swept their opponents at first doubles, 8-0, and the second and third doubles teams consisting of junior Julia Reisler (Plano, Texas / Greenhill) and sophomore Angelica Zhou (Temple City, Calif. / Arcadia) in addition to the team of seniro Vinci Chen (Austin, Texas / Westwood) and freshman Ankita Roychoudhury (Madison, Conn. / Daniel Hand) each won their doubles matches, 8-1.
With Caltech leading comfortably heading into singles action, the Beavers picked up five more wins and some of the team's less frequently used players got a chance to shine. Senior Sarah Cai (Livermore, Calif. / West Lafayette Jr./Sr. ) played her first match of the year and fifth singles and responded with a 6-1, 6-0 win while freshman Jessica Ye (Lutherville-Timonium, Md. / Dulaney) won her first match with the Beavers, 6-1, 7-5, at sixth singles.
Head Coach Mandy Gamble and the Beavers will finish up the month of March at Chapman University on Saturday, Mar. 31.
