PASADENA, Calif. (Mar. 22, 2018) – Sophomore Angelica Zhou (Temple City, Calif. / Arcadia) made her return to the Caltech women's tennis lineup and provided her team with a victory at fifth singles against host Austin college on Thursday evening.
Zhou cemented a successful return with a dominant 6-0, 6-1 victory over the Roos' fifth singles player. Conversely, senior Erin Wang's (Auburn, Calif. / Del Oro) victory at fourth singles came right down to the wire, winning the first set, 6-3, before stumbling in the second set only to make a triumphant return in the match-deciding supertiebreaker where she edged her opponent out, 10-8. Freshman Ankita Roychoudhury (Madison, Conn. / Daniel Hand) found herself on the other side of a 10-8 supertiebreaker at sixth singles in a match that would have put the Beavers over the top in Wednesday's razor-close contest. Junior Kana Moriyama (Redmond, Wash. / Redmond) also picked up a win in the top singles spot (6-3, 6-2) and the third doubles team consisting of Roychoudhury and senior Vinci Chen (Austin, Texas / Westwood) added an 8-5 victory earlier in the day.
Head Coach Mandy Gamble and the Beavers will face off with Trinity College on Friday, Mar. 23 before concluding their road trip the following day at East Texas Baptist University.
