PASADENA, Calif. (Mar. 22, 2015) – Freshman Grace Yao (La Palma, Calif. / Oxford Acad.) picked up a win at #4 singles to earn the Caltech women's tennis team's only point against Pacific Lutheran University on Sunday morning.
The Beavers dropped two close doubles matches and a superbreaker in singles to fall 8-1. Caltech is now 3-5 overall while Pacific Lutheran improves to 3-6.
The Lutes swept doubles 8-4, 8-5 and 8-2 and clinched the match with quick wins at #3 and #6 singles. Yao posted a 6-2, 6-3 victory and freshman Rachel Morton (Oxford, Ohio / Talawanda) dropped a hard-fought 6-3, 6-4 decision at #5 singles, with freshman Erin Wang (Auburn, Calif. / Del Oro) rallying at #2 singles to take the second set and force a superbreaker, where she was narrowly edged out, 11-9.
Head Coach Mandy Gamble and the Beavers will host Pacific (Ore.) University (3-5), which is ranked No. 19 in the West region, on Monday, Mar. 23 at 11:00 a.m.
