Chen Paces Women's Tennis Against No. 9 Pomona-Pitzer

PASADENA, Calif. (Feb. 28, 2015) – Freshman Vinci Chen (Austin, Texas / Westwood) won a team-best four games at #4 singles as the Caltech women's tennis team hosted No. 9 Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Saturday morning.

The Sagehens, also ranked No. 2 in the West region, left with a 9-0 victory to remain perfect on the season at 2-0 overall and 2-0 in the SCIAC, while the Beavers are now 2-3 (0-3).

With rain in the forecast, the foes began with the singles matches, which the Sagehens swept.  Chen led Caltech with a well-played 6-3, 6-1 defeat while freshmen Rachel Morton (Oxford, Ohio / Talawanda) and Grace Yao (La Palma, Calif. / Oxford Acad.) also won multiple games at #5 (6-1, 6-2) and #3 (6-2, 6-0) singles, respectively.  Sophomore Sophia Chen (Newport Beach, Calif. / Corona Del Mar) also won a game in her first career match at #1 singles.

Pomona-Pitzer went on to sweep the doubles matches as well, surrendering a game apiece at courts #1 and #3.

Head Coach Mandy Gamble and the Beavers will host Principia College (2-1) on Saturday, Mar. 7 at 11:00 a.m.
