PASADENA (Nov. 9, 2019) – Sophomore Isabel Swafford (Boise, Id. / Boise) of the Caltech women's swimming & diving team got her 2019-20 season off on the right foot by claiming the 200 IM program record at Saturday's opening day meet against visiting Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges.
Swafford beat the previous school record by five-hundredths of a second to claim her second active record as an individual (2:16.15). Earlier in the day, Swafford won the 100 Back by over two seconds (58:85), 200 Back by nearly four seconds (2:08.99) and teamed with freshman Maddie Swint (Charleston, W. Va. / George Washington), sophomore Isabella Dula (Tuscaloosa, Ala. / Maggie L. Walker) and junior Jessica Sun (York, Penn. / Red Lion Area Senior) to deliver the 10th fastest time in school history in the 200 Medley Relay. Sun and Swint also had significant swims in the 100 and 200 Fly, with both posting top-10 program times.
Head Coach Andy Brabson and the Beavers will have a chance to build on their day in two weeks when they host Occidental College, California Lutheran University and the University of Redlands beginning at 9 a.m.
