Women’s Swim/Dive Trail by Just 19 Points on Day Two

WHITTIER, Calif. (Feb. 20, 2015) – With just one event at finals on their slate for Day Two if the SCIAC Championships, the Caltech women's swimming and diving team posted a season-best mark in the 200 Free Relay on Friday night.

The Beavers benefited from the Chapman University relay's disqualification for an early start to earn 26 points, bringing their total for the meet to 55 – just 10 behind Cal Lutheran University's 74. 

Day One recap



Junior Alexandra Ilic (Austin, Texas / Westlake) led off with a personal-best 28.58 split, followed by freshman Katherine Guo (Naperville, Ill. / Neuqua Valley) at 36.51 and sophomore Kate Evans (Suwanee, Ga. / Lambert) at 32.12.  Senior Shalini Majumdar (Orinda, Calif. / Miramonte) swam the anchor leg and undercut the 30-second barrier for the first time in her career, posting a 29.71.

Earlier in the day, Ilic shaved some time in the 500 Free to clock a 6:01.33, while Evans dropped eight seconds to finish in 7:04.30.  Majumdar and Guo each cut off over half a second in the 50 Free, posting a 30.44 and 30.78.  

Day Three prelims begin at 9:00 a.m., with finals set for 5:30 p.m.
