PASADENA, Calif. (Feb. 7, 2015) – The Caltech women's swimming and diving team closed out its regular season with several time drops and a season-high diving score against Cal Lutheran University, falling 118-48 on Saturday.
The Beavers also bade farewell to their only senior, Shalini Majumdar (Orinda, Calif. / Miramonte), in the final dual meet of her career.
The 200 Medley Relay team earned four points, dropping three seconds from two weeks prior to record a 2:26.61, and junior Alexandra Ilic (Austin, Texas / Westlake) picked up another three in the 200 Free. Junior Grace Lee (Artesia, Calif. / Gretchen Whitney) and Majumdar each dropped a second to narrowly beat out a Cal Lu swimmer for third and fourth place, respectively, and with diving underway simultaneously throughout the meet, sophomore Zofii Kaczmarek (New York, N.Y. / Stuyvesant) took first on the 3-meter as the only competitor, scoring a season-high 170.15 behind a ridiculous back dive that earned her a whopping 38.95 points.
Lee shaved another two seconds off her top 100 Back time to come in third at 1:22.52 while Ilic took second, and Majumdar and freshman Katherine Guo (Naperville, Ill. / Neuqua Valley) closed out the meet with a 2-3 finish in the 100 Breast. Kaczmarek, meanwhile, beat out freshman Robin Brown on the 1-meter board, with the rookie threatening to blow away her previous career high until her final dive, a back dive half twist that did not quite come all the way around, which scored just 11.9.
Head Coach Jack Leavitt and the Beavers will turn their focus to the SCIAC Championships taking place Feb. 19-22 in Commerce, Calif.
