POMONA, Calif. (Jan. 10, 2015) – Sophomore Zofii Kaczmarek (New York, N.Y. / Stuyvesant) led the Caltech women's swimming and diving team with a second-place finish on both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving boards in a SCIAC-opening tri-meet with Pomona-Pitzer Colleges and the University of La Verne.
The Beavers finished with 27 points against La Verne (27-234) and 28 against Pomona-Pitzer (28-221).
Sophomore Kate Evans (Suwanee, Ga. / Lambert) scored Caltech's first point in the 200 Free, and junior Alexandra Ilic (Austin, Texas / Westlake) added to the tally in the 100 Back. Junior Grace Lee (Artesia, Calif. / Gretchen Whitney) also picked up a point in the 50 Free, coming within a second of her personal best, while Kaczmarek beat out both divers from the University of La Verne on the 1-meter to earn top marks in that matchup, with freshman Robin Brown adding three more in the Pomona-Pitzer matchup and two against La Verne on the 1-meter board.
Ilic placed 10th in the 16-swimmer 100 Free field to score another point in each meet and rounded out the Beavers' swimming lineup with another point in the 500 Free. Kaczmarek swept the 3-meter board points as the only competitor in the Pomona-Pitzer matchup and finished sandwiched between the La Verne divers to add four more there.
Head Coach Jack Leavitt and the Beavers will host their first meet of the season against SCIAC rival Occidental College and Mills College at Pasadena City College on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 11:00 a.m. Please note that this represents a change in the original time and location of the meet, with diving taking place offsite at a different time due to repairs to the Caltech competition pool.
