REDLANDS, Calif. (Dec. 3, 2014) – Junior Alexandra Ilic (Austin, Texas / Westlake) dropped 10 seconds between a pair of races to lead the Caltech women's swimming and diving team in its season opener at the University of Redlands on a rainy Wednesday night.
With just four swimmers and two divers available for the dual meet, the Beavers scraped together 21 points across the individual events in a 197-21 loss.
After seeing her 200 Medley Relay disqualified to open the night and being out-touched despite a seven-second drop in the 200 IM (2:37.41), Ilic stepped up in her final race, placing fourth with a 1:14.79. Sophomore Zofii Kaczmarek (New York, N.Y. / Stuyvesant) improved on last year's collegiate debut score of 77.60 on the 3-meter, posting a 101.15.
Senior Shalini Majumdar (Orinda, Calif. / Miramonte) and freshman Katherine Guo made their debuts in the pool, as did freshman Robin Brown on the diving board, with sophomore Grace Lee (Artesia, Calif. / Gretchen Whitney) also competing.
Head Coach Jack Leavitt and the Beavers will next compete in the three-day La Verne Invitational from Friday-Sunday, Dec. 12-14 in Commerce, Calif.
