Women's Soccer Pushes Pioneers to Overtime Brink

PORTLAND, Ore. (Sept. 7, 2019) – The Caltech women's soccer team grinded out a second game on its road trip through Oregon, this time pushing Lewis & Clark College to overtime on Saturday afternoon.

Caltech showed for the entirety of the 90-minute contest it was up to the challenge defensively, stifling the host Pioneers on several quality attempts. Center backs Catherine Kauber (Pleasantville, N.Y. / Pleasantville) and Nayla Abney (Sewell, N.J. / Deptford Township) kept the home team's attackers at bay for most of the game and any shots that managed to get through the Caltech defense were scooped up by freshman goalkeeper Valerie Hetherington (Bozeman, Mon. / Deerfield Academy), who finished the game with four saves, including one in overtime.

The Beavers put together some solid offensive attempts throughout the game to keep the Pioneers on their toes. Junior midfielders Krystin Brown (Lake Forest, Calif. / Trabuco Hills) and Netra Ravishankar (Fremont, Calif. / American) each had their own quality chances between the 51st and 60th minute with each shot finding a path to the net. Saturday marked the first time in program history the Beavers have gone to overtime, which should only make them stronger as they progress through their third season together.

Head Coach Ellery Gould and the Beavers will look for their first win together when they travel to the Soka University of America on Wednesday, Sept. 11 for a 5:30 p.m. game.
