PASADENA (June 28, 2018) – The Caltech women's soccer team has unveiled its schedule for the 2018 season, which will consist of 11 home contests, seven of which will come against SCIAC competition. This season will mark the team's official debut in the SCIAC on the heels of last year's inaugural season that saw the Beavers pick up their first two wins ever.
Head Coach Taylor Houck and the Beavers, who will play all non-conference opponents at home this year open up the season with a three-game homestand beginning with Providence Christian College on Tuesday, August 28 at 10 a.m before following up at the same time against Oberlin College three days later. Caltech concludes the homestand with another 10 a.m. game against Bethesda University on Monday, September 3.
The women's soccer team will then begin SCIAC competition at Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Wednesday, Sept. 5 but will return home for another two-game stretch starting on Saturday, Sept. 8 against visiting regular season champions California Lutheran University at 11 a.m. Caltech will be back at home on Wednesday, Sept. 12 for a 4 p.m. battle against defending SCIAC postseason champions Whittier College before returning to the road on Saturday, Sept. 15 at the University of Redlands under the lights. The Beavers are then slated to travel to Chapman University on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 4 p.m. before returning home for a one-off against rival Occidental College on Saturday, Sept. 22 at 11 a.m. Caltech concludes the month of September exactly one week later at the University of La Verne for a 7 p.m. game.
Caltech opens October at home against visiting Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Wednesday the third at 4 p.m. Though the women's soccer team has only just become SCIAC eligible this year, the Beavers found themselves in a good position to score a win against the Athenas in the second half of last year's game at North Field. Trailing by two goals at the end of the first half, the Beavers rallied to tie the game at 2-2 in the 51st minute. The women's team will be hunting for the elusive first SCIAC win when CMS visits later this year unless it happens sooner and the Beavers could be extra motivated, having just one shot at the Athenas this year.
The Beavers will then press on through October, starting with the Sagehens paying a visit to North Field on Saturday the sixth at 11 a.m. Caltech then travels to Thousand Oaks to battle Cal Lutheran on Wednesday, Oct. 10 before returning to Pasadena for its final three home games of the season, beginning with the annual Orange Out game against Mills College on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 11 a.m. The women's soccer team will return to action three days later against visiting Redlands for the 4 p.m. Faculty Appreciation game, before having its final home game of 2018 on Saturday, Oct. 20 against Chapman at 11 a.m.
Houck and the Beavers will finish up their second season of existence with a pair of SCIAC rematches, first at Oxy on Wednesday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. and lastly at Whittier the ensuing Saturday at 7 p.m. The SCIAC Postseason Tournament will take place on Halloween Wednesday and Saturday Nov. 3.
