PARKLAND, Wash. (Dec. 16, 2018) – Senior center Elizabeth Eiden (White Plains, N.Y. / Holy Child) of the Caltech women's basketball team added to her season block total when the visiting Beavers took on the University of Puget Sound on Sunday in the second game of the team's weekend road trip to the Pacific Northwest.
The senior held down the paint with all five of her team's blocks over 34 minutes and also chipped in 12 points and seven rebounds on 6-of-11 shooting with half of her points coming in the second quarter. The five blocks tied a season high and Sunday marked the third time this season the senior has hit the five-block mark and the second time in the last three games. Meanwhile, junior guard Samantha D'Costa (San Jose, Calif. / St. Francis) secured her place on the all-tournament team with a 15-point, nine-rebound performance. Senior guard Nika Haleftiras (San Diego, Calif. / Our Lady of Peace) facilitated the visitors with five points and three assists.
Caltech started the game strong, holding Puget Sound to just eight first-quarter points. The Beavers nearly outshot their opponents over the full game and came one turnover shy of winning the turnover battle.
Head Coach Bridgette Reyes and the Beavers will return at home on Thursday, Dec. 20 when they host Life Pacific College at 2 p.m.
