ORANGE, Calif. (Feb. 24, 2015) – Senior Bridget Connor (Albuquerque, N.M. / Albuquerque Acad.) ended her career with a team-high 13 points as the Caltech women's basketball team fell at Chapman University on Tuesday night.
Chapman posted the 85-35 victory to close out the regular season just above .500 at 13-12 overall and 10-6 in the SCIAC, while Caltech finishes at 2-23 (2-14).
Connor started hot with early back-to-back jumpers to keep Caltech within one point through the opening four minutes, but the Panthers surged ahead with a 22-1 run and never looked back, leading 41-16 at halftime and extending the margin to a high of 52.
Junior Stephanie Wong (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif. / Palos Verdes Peninsula) brought down 11 rebounds and made five steals while Connor added a pair of blocks.
The Beavers end the season having recorded the most SCIAC wins since the 2009-10 season to go with a number of individual records. Sophomore Kate Lewis (San Antonio, Texas / Ronald Reagan) shattered the single-season scoring mark of by a whopping 67 points, finishing the year at 441 with a SCIAC-leading 17.6 points per game and earning SCIAC Athlete of the Week honors once. Wong also led the conference in three-pointers made, averaging 2.2 per contest, while setting the single-game three-point mark with seven treys and becoming the fastest player in program history to reach 1,000 points in her career, accomplishing the feat in just 71 games. Wong was also named to the d3hoops.com Team of the Week, becoming the first Beaver since 2007 to earn the honor. As a team, the Beavers also set a single-game record with 18 steals at Whittier College on Jan. 7.
