Quick Start Paces CLU; Solid Second Half for Beavers

PASADENA, CA – A quick start was all Cal Lutheran needed as they posted a 58-40 win over Caltech in a SCIAC women's basketball match-up.

After each team struggled to find the basket during the early moments of the game, the Cal Lutheran offense took charge. The Regals connected on eight of their next 14 field goal attempts while holding Caltech scoreless.

Just past the stanza's halfway point, the game settled into a rhythm. The final 8:08 of the frame saw the team's play evenly but the early scoring spurt by Cal Lutheran was the difference as they held a 36-17 edge at halftime.

The second half was played tit-for-tat as Caltech posted a one-point advantage in the second half. The Beavers outscored the visitors 23-22 but the defending SCIAC tournament champions rode the strong start to the win. Caltech turned the ball over just four times in the second frame to aid in their positive half.

Stephanie Wong overcame an injury timeout in the first half to score a team high 19 points. She tied for team high rebounding honors with seven. Kristen Anderson grabbed seven rebounds as well for the Beavers.

Grace Leishman, who came into the game as the league's second best shot blocker, continued her solid low post defense with three blocks.

Cal Lutheran's Channing Fleischmann had a team best 17 points in 21 minutes of action.
