CLAREMONT, CA – At the 27th annual Pomona-Pitzer track and field invitational on Saturday, a host of Caltech performers came away with victories in their respective sections to claim the covenanted t-shirt prize.
In addition to those section winning efforts, a handful of personal best marks were set in the final meet before the SCIAC Championships in two weeks.
Victor Duan brought home a victory t-shirt for winning his section of the 100 meter dash. Duan won his section with a time of 12.33. Matthew Voss also posted a section winning time in the 400 meter hurdles. The junior posted a time of 59.33. It is the second consecutive year each of them has won their respective section at the event.
During the men's 1500 meter race Eric Martin set a nearly four-second personal best time by clocking a 4:01.64. The sophomore's time is the fifth best mark in school history.
Two top 10 times were set during the 5000 meter race for Michael Ignatowich and Adithya Bhagavathi. Ignatowich ran the race in 16:02.21 to post the ninth best time in school history while Bhagavathi's effort of 16:07.69 is 10th best.
Stephanie Reynolds set two personal best marks during the invitational. The sophomore ran the 800 meter race in 2:25.37 which is three second better than her previous best and moves her to fourth on the school's top 10 list. She bettered her time in the 1500 meter race by two seconds to 4:52.50 which is the second best time in Caltech history.
Juliette Becker also nudged her way into the school's top 10 list during the 1500 meter race. The junior's time of 5:13.07 is the 10th best mark.
Bridget Connor moved her already 10th pole vault height by three inches. The sophomore cleared the bar at 7' 8 1/2" which is just two inches away from the ninth best mark at Caltech.
