PASADENA, Calif. – The men's and women's track and field teams at Caltech received All-Academic honors which were given out by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
The Caltech men's team recorded the highest cumulative team GPA among Division III men's team, with an impressive 3.60 team mark. Pomona-Pitzer earned the second highest mark in the country with a 3.54 team GPA. Caltech was one of three SCIAC schools among the 74 institutions that earned All-Academic status which was given to school's whose team GPA exceeded 3.10.
The Caltech women's team also received All-Academic honors for their team GPA of 3.40. That mark was third in the SCIAC conference behind Pomona-Pitzer (3.54) and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (3.41). Six SCIAC institutions were among the 137 that were honored by the USTFCCCA.
"Caltech has a tradition of very hard-working student-athletes, and it is very special to see them recognized nationally," said distance coach Scott Jung. "To have the highest GPA in the country is truly a testament to the work that these kids put in all year."
The USTFCCCA also bestowed honors upon Caltech's cross country teams in the fall when both the men's and women's teams finished the season with one of the top 16 team GPA's in the country.
The men's team has 27 student-athletes while the women's team has 16 members.
