CLAREMONT, Calif. -- Members of the Caltech track and field squad were invited to the 25th annual Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
Juliette Becker put her name in the school's all-time top 10 in the 5000 meter run with a time of 19:46.10. The first year has now moved into the school's top 10 list in three different distance events in the last six weeks.
During the pole vault competition Sarah Wright cleared the bar at 8'8 1/4" to improve her personal best by nearly a foot while moving up to fifth on Caltech's all-time list.
Paige Logan improved her personal best discus throw by over a foot to 116'8" which nudges her closer to the 17-year old school record of 124'8" held by Amy Oldenburg.
Deboki Chakravarti won both of her heats during the 100 meter (13.90) and 200 meter (28.59) races. In the 200 meter race she edged out teammate Sarah Wright by 0.34 seconds.
For the Caltech men, Will Livingston lowered his personal best season time in the 1500 meter by four seconds when he ran the four-lap race in 4:31.37. He was the second fastest Beaver in the race as Alan Menezes crossed the finish line in 4:22.21. The men's 1500 run was the largest event of the day with 98 competitors from over 35 different running communities.
In the 5000 meter run Andy Zucker ran the best time of the season for a Caltech runner as he clipped he tape in 16:46.64.
The best overall finish for Caltech during the event came in the high jump as Alex Lapides finished tied for 10th with a jump of 6'2".
The Beavers have one more team competition before the conference championships at the end of the month. Next Saturday they travel to CMS for a four-way meet with La Verne, CMS and Pomona-Pitzer.
