PASADENA, Calif. – On Saturday afternoon at the Caltech track the Beavers hosted their annual four-way SCIAC meet. Caltech competed against Whittier and Cal Lutheran. Pomona Pitzer also competed in the event.
The Caltech ladies nearly pulled off their first dual meet win since 2008 but fell in a tight competition with Whittier. They also lost to Cal Lutheran. The men's team fell to Cal Lutheran and Whittier.
Stephanie Wuerth provided one of the highlights for the Beavers as the senior won the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 12:54.44. She was 22 seconds fasters than her nearest competitor.
Jessica Swallow had a solid event as she scored points in four different individual events. In the high jump she tied her personal best mark of 4'11" to finish in a tie for second. Swallow placed fourth in the pole vault by clearly the bar at 8' ½". She also finished second in the triple jump (33' ¼") and fourth in the long jump (15' ½").
Paige Logan finished second in two events. The first year threw 36'11.50" in the shot put to finish just behind Jackie De la Paz's effort of 37'8 ½". In the discus throw Logan's best effort of 114'09" fell just short again of De la Paz (119'9").
In the men's competition Alex Lapides continues to show why he is defending conference high jump champion. The senior had his second best jump of the season as he cleared the bar at 1.95 meters (6' 4 ¾") as he topped his nearest competitor by five inches.
Brice Nzeukou finished in second place in the 100 meter dash (11.29) as he was nudged out by .03 seconds by Jordan Williams of Cal Lutheran and Zach Garrett of Whittier. Nzeukou also placed third in the 200 meter dash (22.92).
