LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- The distance runners on the Caltech track and field team competed at the Occidental Distance Classic on Friday evening.
The event was highlighted by Juliette Becker setting a school record in the 10000 meter women's race. The first year runner crossed the finish line in 41:45.54 which is over a minute faster than the previous mark set by Sylvia Sullivan (42:50.61) set last season.
The Beavers put five members of the squad in the men's 1500 meter run. Alan Menezes posted the best time for Caltech by running the four-lap race in 4:16.53. The race featured 90 runners from over 20 different schools and running communities.
Michael Zang crossed the finish line in a time of 4:30.21 to place second among Beaver runners. Will Livingston was close behind as the freshman finished in 4:35.90. Both Zang and Livingston each set a personal best mark. Anton Bongio-Karrman (4:46.65) and Alex Wang (5:00.14) also participated for the Beavers.
Becker also ran the 800 meter women's race where she posted a time of 2:30.51. Becker's mark is not only a season best for her, but the sixth best mark in school history.
Justine Chia competed in the 1500 meter women's race. The first year finished in a time of 5:15.97 which is the 10th best mark in school history.
Sylvia Sullivan ran the 5000 meter women's race in a time of 20:17.93
No other races were competed in by a Caltech runner.
