OAKLAND, CA – The Caltech men's and women's swimming/diving team began the season with a limited squad at the Mills College quad meet with the host Cyclones, the College of Idaho and SOKA.
While traveling with just six men and six women the Beavers were able to accumulate a handful of first place finishes but couldn't quite pull out a team win.
In the women's meet Jacqueline Maseho-Lano started off this season were she left off last season. The sophomore won the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:01.41 and finished second in the 1000 yard race by touching the wall in 11:50.01. Her top finishes were top two among all the competitors.
Rachel Moore also had a top three finish among all swimmers by placing second in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 28.95. She also had a second place finish in the 100 yard freestlye (1:05.09).
Emily Shih, who spent most of the 2011-12 campaign as a diver, placed second during the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:13.00.
On the men's side, Christian Rivas gave the Beavers a first place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke. The senior clocked a time of 1:06.02 in taking top honors.
Kristian Thomsen had a solid first collegiate meet. Thomsen placed third in the 50 yard freestyle by recording a time of 28.37. Kevin Yu also garnered a second place finish in the 200 yard IM as he touched the walk in 2:07.98. Yu placed third in the 100 yard freestyle (54.44) as well.
Cedric Flamant placed third in the three-teams men meet during the 100-yard butterfly. The event saw Flamant touch the wall in 1:02.99.
