Yu Sets School Mark - Again; Masehi-Lano Posts First Place Races

LA VERNE, CA – The Caltech swimming and diving squads continued their tour through the SCIAC with a Saturday meet against La Verne.

For the third time this season Kevin Yu set the school 100 yard butterfly record. He lowered the time to :54.04 in winning the event by almost four seconds. The first-year also posted a third place finish in the 100 yard backstroke (1:01.32).

CJ Culpepper swam both freestyle distance races for the Beavers. The sophomore started the meet with a second place finish in the 1000 yard race with a time of 11:10.56. Culpepper followed that with a runner-up finish in the 500 yard event (5:25.90).

Jack Blackwood finished second in the 100 yard freestyle by touching the wall in a season best time of 54.09. Fellow senior, Tommy Kwong, had a solid swim in the 100 yard backstroke by posting a season best time of 1:09.70.

During the women’s portion of the meet Jaqueline Masehi-Lano continued her string of solid finishes with three more first place finishes. She started her meet with the top time in the 200 yard freestyle (2:03.18). The sophomore then took a first place finish during the 100 yard butterfly (1:00.28). Her final individual event saw her win the 100 yard breaststroke by touching the wall in 1:16.63.

Alexandra Ilic posted her best individual finish of the season so far. The first-year placed second in the 500 yard freestyle event (6:15.47). Misha Raffie also posted a runner-up finish during the 100 yard backstroke event by touching the wall in 1:18.76.

During the diving portion of the meet, Emily Shih scored a season best 130.50 in the one-meter event.
