PASADENA, CA – The Caltech swimming & diving team took to the pool on Saturday against new SCIAC foe Chapman. Those in attendance were treated to a little bit of history.
The men's team posted their first SCIAC dual meet win in four years as they posted a 139-93 win. The Panther ladies won the dual meet 182-50.
Caltech's last league win for the men came against Cal Lutheran on Jan. 26, 2009 when they won a 111-101 decision over the Kingsmen. In recording the win on Saturday, the Beavers won eight of the 13 events contested.
"It feels good to have a good week of practice then come out here and get the win," first-year Patric Eck said. "This was a total team effort. We did a lot of things really well today."
Ben Grabowski set the tone for the day as the sophomore won the three-meter diving competition with a personal best score of 208.95. He followed that victory up with a win in the one-meter event by setting another career best score (199.50).
Eck also posted two individual wins to aid in the Beavers cause. He started his day with a win in the 200 yard freestyle race with a personal best time of 1:52.82. Eck set another individual best time during the 100 yard freestyle by winning the race in 50.60 seconds. He also swam the third leg of the 4x200 freestyle relay as he contributed 29 points to the win.
Kevin Yu also tallied two first place finishes in his individual events while helping the 4x200 freestyle relay to victory. Yu won the 400 individual medley by 11 seconds as he touched the wall in 4:42.04. The first-year then won the 100 yard butterfly in 54.86 later in the meet. He also contributed 29 team points.
CJ Culpepper also made a huge contribution to the team win. The sophomore won the 1000 yard freestyle win in 10:51.75 to set a personal best mark by .31 seconds. Culpepper finished second in the 500 yard freestyle (5:20.15) as well as swimming anchor leg during the team's 4x200 freestyle relay win.

Jack Blackwood was also a key contributor to the Beavers win as the senior placed second in two races (200 yard freestyle, 50 yard freestyle) while providing a solid first leg during the 4x200 freestyle relay.
During the women's portion of the meet for Caltech, Jacqueline Masehi-Lano continued her solid sophomore campaign by winning two races. She won the 400 yard individual medley by touching the wall in 4:59.58. Masehi-Lano concluded her day with a victory in the 200 yard backstroke (2:19.44).
Alexandra Ilic posted a runner-up finish in the 50 yard freestyle with a personal best time of 28.73.
