PASADENA, CA – The Caltech swim/dive squad hosted a tri-meet on Friday morning against Augsburg College and the College of Idaho.
Caltech's women's squad participated against both squads. The Beavers topped Augsburg 132-53 but fell to the College of Idaho 112-87.
The men only competed against the College of Idaho with the Beavers posting a 129-54 win.
The Beaver men won three separate individual swim events. Jack Blackwood started the winning by claiming a first place finish in the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:40.56. Tommy Kwong followed that in the next event by posting the top time in the 100 yard butterfly (1:03.63). Jim Blackwood finished the trifecta by winning the 100 yard backstroke in 1:02.62.
CJ Culpepper had a solid meet while swimming the distance freestyle events. The sophomore placed second in the 1000 yard event by touching the wall in 11:11.09. Culpepper followed that with a runner-up finish in the 500 yard event (5:22.88).
During the women's meet Jacqueline Masehi-Lano posted the best individual meet of all swimmers by winning all three events she competed in. The sophomore started the morning by posting a time of 11:52.68 in the 1000 yard freestyle. She won the event by just over a minute. Her next event (100 yard butterfly) saw her win by almost a six second margin. Her perfect meet was topped off by winning the 500 yard freestyle in 5:36.95.
Marqaux Lopez was also a solid points producer for Caltech. Lopez finished second in the 50 yard freestyle (28.77) and 200 yard freestyle (2:16.43) swims. The sophomore posted a third place finish in the 100 yard backstroke (1:11.11).
Rachel Moore posted a second place finish in the 100 yard freestyle (1:05.40) and tallied a third place finish in the 500 yard freestyle (6:53.19). Iris Liu chipped into the Beavers team win by placing second in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:23.83.
