PASADENA, CA – On Saturday and Sunday afternoon the Caltech diving team hosted the 2013 SCIAC Diving Preliminaries at the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center.
Saturday's competition commenced in the women's thee-meter and men's one-meter diving events. The event concluded on Sunday with the men's three-meter and women's one-meter.
The top eight individuals from one- and three-meter competitions qualify for the 2013 SCIAC Championships in La Mirada, CA from Feb. 17-19.
The NCAA Qualifying marks for 11 dives –
MEN – 425 (1 Meter), 440 (3 Meter)
James Stewick, from ClaremontMuddScripps, placed first with a NCAA Championship consideration score of 495.67 points during the one-meter event. He outdistanced his nearest competitors by over 100 points.
Jessica Robson of Occidental won the women's three-meter event with an NCAA consideration score of 462.51. She topped ClaremontMuddScripps Carmen Lundell's score of 418.41. Lundell's score also earns her NCAA consideration.
Caltech's Ben Grabowski finished sixth with an 11-dive score of 302.46. Fellow Beaver Emily Shih scored 107.34 points in six dives on the three-meter board.
Similar to the first day results, James Stevick topped the men's divers in the three-meter competition by posting a score of 465 which put his in consideration for an NCAA Championships apperance. Eli Beibuhr was the cloest competitor with 359.30 points
During the women's one-meter competition, Jessica Robson posted the top score. The Occidental diver recorded a score of 402.48 which is good enough for NCAA consideration.
For the host Beavers, Ben Grabowski finished seventh with a score fo 284.60. Emily Shih recorded a score of 87.39 in the one-meter.
