Caltech Wraps Up Home Slate with Two Meets

PASADENA, Calif. – The Caltech swimming/diving squad wrapped up their home portion of the schedule this weekend with a pair of meets. On Saturday the Beavers faced off against fellow SCIAC member Whittier before hosting Chapman in a non-conference meet on Sunday.

One of the best races of the afternoon came during the men's 100 yard Butterfly. Caltech's Christian Rivas nudged out Whittier's top finisher by just over a tenth of second – 57.04 to 57.15. Rivas also tipped out Wes Paulson's (57.82) effort by less than second as well in claiming first place.

The Beavers also got a first place effort from Peter Buhler. The junior continued his mastery of the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 55.53. Buhler beat out the second place finish, Juan Aguilar, by almost seven seconds.  During the 50 yard freestyle Buhler finished third with a time of 23.53 in helping the Beavers to 12 team points.

Janis Intoy had a solid meet for Caltech. Intoy finished second in the 100 yard backstroke (1:15.5) and fourth in the 400 yard IM (5:37.42) as she scored six team points for Caltech. Caitlin Regan placed third in both the 200 yard freestyle (2:19.07) and 100 yard butterfly (1:10.04). The co-captain also scored six team points.

A top race for the Beavers came during the 100 yard breaststroke as Tony Tong (1:10.15) edged out teammate Tommy Kwong (1:10.21) by less than a tenth of a second.

Caltech also won races in the 100 yard backstroke as Peter Buhler swam a time of 57.20 while Jack Blackwood brought home nine team points in the 1000 yard freestyle (12:45.96). Christian Rivas won the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 57.38.

Justin Johnson continued his mastery on the diving boards by winning the one-meter competition.

During the women's meet the Beavers got a first place finish from Janis Intoy in the 400 yard IM (5:33.05). Caitlin Regan topped on a good weekend with a second place finish in the 200 yard freestyle (2:17.77) and a third place finish in the 100 yard butterfly (1:06.10).

Hanna Dodd posted a runner-up finish in the 100 yard freestyle (1:03.09) while recording a third place finish in the 200 yard freestyle (2:23.15).
